From the beginning the Artist Jan de Quelery has his inspiration from: ships and de Sea , but also the harbour scene’s like: South street New York, Wellington harbour ,Amsterdam and Antwerp are giving him the inspiration to work with the canvas. The clipper ships ,Tall ships ,J-class , Classic schooners , and ships from the Golden century like ; the “Royal Charles” , “the 7 Provinciën “ and “Gouden Leeuw” are his favorite subject . Before starting a work the artist make’s study from the ships and rigging but also the Historical background is a need to work with . It takes many hours to work on a canvas like ; “the 4 Days Sea Battle 1666’’ and “the Dutch Raid on the river Medway 1667” [oil on canvas 60 inches by 88 inches], each work needed 950 hours to complete the work. Therefore all the works are scanned in high resolution and digital stored by the artist to make Giclee fine art prints on canvas in limited editions .
